Light up the sky with the Mayor's Fireworks
The sky over Basingstoke will be lit up in technicolour on 5 November, courtesy of the Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane. Residents and visitors will once again be treated to a fantastic fireworks display at the annual Mayor’s Firework Fiesta thanks to the continued support and sponsorship by Huawei Technologies UK Co Ltd. This will be the fourth year Huawei has sponsored the event which helps light up the sky over Basingstoke with an amazing display of colour, noise and pyrotechnics. The firework fiesta will take place on Friday 5 November at the War Memorial Park. Disabled parking will be available at Crossborough Hill. A funfair and Michelle from the Heart FM Breakfast Show will also be there on the night. The gates will open at 6pm, entertainment provided from 7pm and the fireworks display is scheduled to begin at approximately 7.30pm. The proceeds from the event will go towards the Mayor’s Charity Appeal 2010/11. Each Mayor chooses the charities to support during his or her year in office. This year’s charities are Basingstoke Alzheimer’s Society, SSAFA and the Destination Basingstoke Grassroots fund. Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane Cllr Keith Chapman said: “I am delighted that Huawei are once again able to sponsor this charity even. Should any other businesses wish to sponsor any of my other charity events please do get in touch. I would be delighted if you would come along and join me for what I am sure will be yet again an amazing display. It's a great way to enjoy an excellent family evening while at the same time supporting my worthwhile local charities that support local people.” Tickets will be on sale at the council’s offices in London Road, Basingstoke and the Willis Museum. It is also be possible to buy tickets online via www.basingstoke.gov.uk/fireworks and through the council’s Contact Centre on 01256 844844. Payments via credit card are acceptable.
