Man was assaulted in London Street

Police are appealing for information after a man was assaulted in Basingstoke on Saturday, April 17.

At around 8.30pm a 51-year-old man was walking with his partner along London Street opposite Naya Cash and Carry.

A teenage boy approached them and started to shout abuse he then walked up to the man and hit him with a beer can before punching him in the head.

The victim fought the boy off and he then pulled out a knife and threatened the victim before running off down New Street.

The victim suffered a cut to his head following the incident but did not require hospital treatment.

The teenager is described as: 

  • White
  • 16 years old
  • 5ft 6ins tall
  • Slim build
  • Short dark cropped hair
  • Wearing a dark zip up top and dark trousers


PC Ross Holdsworth, of the Basingstoke Safer Neighbourhoods Team, said: “This was a nasty assault and it has left the victim shaken up.

“It was a malicious and unprovoked attack and we want to find the person responsible.

“This kind of behaviour will not be tolerated in Basingstoke and we would ask anyone with any information to contact us as soon as possible.”
