Suspicious Incident in Popley

Suspicious Incident in Popley  Police are appealing for witnesses after a suspicious incident in Popley on Tuesday, April 13.

Between 7pm and 8pm, a 13-year-old girl was walking along Shetland Road near to Marnel School. She was approached by a man driving a car who asked her if she wanted a lift.

The girl kept walking and the car followed her for a short distance before driving off.

The man was driving a modern looking dark green people carrier, possibly a Vauxhall Zafira.

The man is described as: 
  • Mixed race
  • Around 45 years old
  • Tall 
  • Stocky
  • Small goatee beard
  • Wearing a green and blue top
  • Spoke with a foreign sounding accent
PC Dan Carter, of the Popley Safer Neighbourhoods Team, said: “This was a concerning incident and we want to trace this man as soon as possible to establish why he offered the girl a lift.

“If you have any information, or know who this man is, please contact us as soon as possible.

“I’d also like to remind parents to remind their children of the stranger danger message and to report any incidents to us.”
