Motorists warned following car part thefts

Motorists warned following car part thefts Motorists in Basingstoke are being warned to be vigilant after a spate of car part thefts in the town.

Since November, police have received more than 20 reports of equipment being stolen from cars throughout the district.

Items stolen have included a hydraulic pump from an Iveco van, a boot catch from a Volkswagen Golf, hub caps from a Ford Fiesta, a front lamp lense from a Renault Clio, the rear wheels of a Peugeot 206, front wipers and lamps from a Ford Transit, front and rear bumpers from a Land Rover, the front grill from a Volkswagen Passat, the gear knob, front wiper blade and arm from a Vauxhall Astra and the rear wiper and aerial from a Citroen C3.

Other items such as badges have also been stolen.

Sergeant Andy Swanborough, from the Basingstoke Safer Neighbourhoods Team, said: “These incidents appear to be happening across the district and we are investigating the reason for these thefts.

"It may be items are being stolen to order or to meet a need, so we would like to hear from anyone who has been offered car parts for sale, or fitted to their vehicle; perhaps inadvertently without realising they were stolen.

“If you are concerned about reporting this to the police, you can ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Can you help?
