Couple assaulted in Fairfields Road  

Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a robbery in Basingstoke on Tuesday, January 5.

At around 11.30pm a 41-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman were walking home in the snow along Fairfields Road.

They stopped to build a snowman near to the tennis courts and were then approached by a group of around ten men and women.

Members of the group assaulted the couple and stole the woman’s mobile phone.

The man suffered minor cuts to his head and bruising to his ribs and back and was treated at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital.

Police believe there were between six and eight men in the group. One of the men is described as: 

  • Around 18 years old
  • Short, dark blond hair
  • Wearing jeans

Another one of the men is described as: 

  • Aged in his 20s
  • Short, brown hair
  • Wearing a white and blue tracksuit top

One of the women is described as: 

  • White
  • Aged between 18 and 19
  • Long, dark hair
  • Skinny to medium build
Detective Constable Shula Williamson, of Basingstoke CID, said: “This was a nasty attack against two innocent members of the public who were minding their own business.

“We want to hear from anyone who was in the area on Tuesday night and may have seen a large group of people walking around.

“It was an isolated incident and we would ask any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact us as soon as possible.”
