To support two of the Community Safety Forum’s priorities, tackling the fear of crime and anti-social behaviour, the council’s community safety team will be handing out safety information and advice on the night.

One of the key issues reported to the council and the police around Halloween is anti-social behaviour associated with trick or treaters. However, it’s a fun time of year for people of all ages and the council wants people to enjoy the time, but also respect those who don’t want to get involved.

By following these top tips, everyone can enjoy Halloween:
alone.
  • Stay with others and make sure you never enter the home of a stranger
  • Tricks can go wrong and may land you in a lot of trouble
  • Don’t use fireworks, eggs, flour or anything else that may cause damage or offence
  • If nobody answers the door or a ‘no trick or treat’ sign is on display, be considerate and leave immediately.

Cabinet Member for Community Safety, Development and Transport Cllr Clive Sanders said: “We want people to have fun around Halloween, but some residents, particularly the old or infirm, find those who trick or treat intimidating. We don’t want to stop people from trick or treating, we just ask them to respect those who don’t want to take part.”
