Mayors technicolour firework fiesta
The sky over Basingstoke will be lit up in technicolour on 5 November, courtesy of the Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane. The annual Mayor’s firework display will this year be held on Thursday 5 November at the War Memorial Park. Disabled parking will be available at Crossborough Hill. Fire entertainers, a funfair and Heart FM roadshow will also be there on the night. The gates will open at 6pm and the fireworks display is scheduled to begin at approximately 7.30pm. The proceeds from the event will go towards the Mayor’s Charity Appeal 2009/10. Each Mayor chooses the charities to support during his or her year in office. This year’s charities are Hampshire & IOW Air Ambulance, Wessex Cancer Trust and Young People's information. Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane Cllr Brian Gurden said: “Please come along and join me for what I am sure will be yet again an excellent family evening. It's a great way to enjoy a massive fireworks display whilst at the same time supporting my worthwhile local charities that support local people.” Tickets will be on sale at the payments hall, in the Parklands Building at the council’s offices in London Road, Basingstoke, the Willis Museum and the Hampshire County Council Information Centre next to the library. It will also be possible to buy tickets online via www.basingstoke.gov.uk/fireworks and through the council’s Contact Centre on 01256 844844. Payments via Credit Card are acceptable. People who buy tickets in advance will be able to avoid the queues because certain gates will be set aside solely for their use. Further details also online. Adult tickets will cost £6 when bought in advance and £7 if purchased at the gate on the night of the event. Child tickets cost £3 when bought in advance and cost £4 on the night. Family tickets bought in advance will cost £15 and £18 when purchased on the night. On Tuesday 4 November, anyone who has bought a £6 armband will be able to ride all the adult rides on the funfair as many times as they wish without further payment. Kiddies rides will cost £1 per ride. On Wednesday 5 November all rides will cost £1.50. The funfair information line is 07836 226464.
