Gun fired in in Beggarwood

Detectives from Basingstoke CID are investigating an incident that happened in Beggarwood on Tuesday, July 21.

At 8.30pm police received reports of an altercation taking place between three men at an address in Britannia Drive.

Officers believe an 18-year-old man who lives in the area was threatened by two men. The men were disturbed and ran off.

As they left the address a firearm was discharged, however nobody was injured.

The first man is described as: 

  • Black
  • 5ft 7ins to 5ft 10ins tall
  • Proportionate build
  • Grade two, short, cropped hair

The second man is described as: 

  • Black
  • Aged in his early 20s
  • 5ft 11ins to 6ft tall
  • Stocky build
  • Wearing a grey tracksuit top and bottoms
Superintendent David Annets, of the North and East Operational Command Unit, said: “Firearms incidents like this are extremely rare in Basingstoke and this is being treated as an isolated incident.

“A team of detectives are working to find those responsible and we would ask anyone with any information who has not yet spoken to police to contact us as soon as possible.

“Our Safer Neighbourhoods teams are carrying out reassurance patrols in the area and any residents with any concerns can contact them by calling 0845 045 45 45.

“Gun crime is unacceptable and Hampshire Constabulary will deal with offenders robustly. Anyone found to be in possession of an illegal firearm could face a minimum five-year prison sentence.”
