Going to the ball safely
Arrive in style but safely – that’s the message from Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council as many school pupils get ready for their summer balls. Limousines are regularly hired to take pupils to their summer balls, so the licensing team at the council is appealing to parents to check that the vehicles and drivers they’re hiring are licensed before booking them. Last year, during spot checks, companies licensed by this borough council were found to be complying with the requirements therefore, this year it was decided that it wasn’t necessary to do spot checks. Chairman of the council’s licensing committee Rita Burgess said: “Although we were happy that our limousine companies were complying with requirements last year, I would urge residents to ensure they check that the limousine they are hiring is licensed. “We want the borough’s school leavers to enjoy their summer balls and their parents not to worry about their safety.” To check if a company has a limousine licence Residents will need to check first where the limousine company’s office is located and refer their request to that local council’s licensing team who can check to see if the company has a licence.
