Armed robbery at Jackpots amusement arcade in Church Street

Detectives in Basingstoke are appealing for witnesses and information following an armed robbery at a shop in the town on Wednesday, June 17.

Around 4.15pm, a man entered the Jackpots amusement arcade in Church Street and threatened staff and customers with a weapon.

He demanded the female staff member hand over a quantity of cash and then left the store.

No-one was injured during the robbery.

The man is described as:

  • White
  • Aged between 19 and 24 years old
  • Slim build
  • 5ft 9ins to 5ft 11ins
  • Wearing a dark blue anorak style jacket with the hood up, a cream scarf across his face and gloves.

Detective Constable Paul Smith, from Basingstoke CID, said: “This was a terrifying incident for those inside the store but fortunately neither the woman nor the customers were injured.

“This robbery occurred during broad daylight in a busy street and I am sure there would have been lots of people in the area of Church Street or the top of town who may have seen something.

“If you saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area, or recognise the description of the robber, then please contact us.”

Can you help?

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Paul Smith at Basingstoke CID on 0845 045 45 45 or call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111. Mini-Com users can call 01962 875000.
