Wheels in motion for opening of new look skatepark and BMX track
Skaters, inliners and BMXers in the borough will get a new youth facility off on the right track when it is officially opened on Saturday 30 May. Around 20 young people will join Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Development, Cllr Clive Sanders for the opening of the new look skatepark and BMX track at the War Memorial Park. Funded through a Big Lottery grant of £54,000, Skate Park Plus has seen the aging skate park refurbished, modernised and the existing structures extended to included a new BMX track for young people in the community to enjoy. The facility has also been given a splash of colour, with the young people helping to create the graffiti art on the new structures. Cllr Sanders said: “This new look facility has been a project created by young people for young people. We asked them what they wanted and then worked with them to turn it from a rundown structure into a bright, vibrant and challenging facility, which I hope they will want to use time and time again. “This has been a community project and the young people have really put their stamp on it from start to finish, beginning with the initial designs right through to the colourful graffiti art on the finished structures. I would like to thank them for their involvement and support and encourage as many people as possible to take advantage of this great new facility.” The skate park and BMX track is situated behind Totally Tennis at the War Memorial Park.
