Police are appealing for witnesses after an assault in Basingstoke during the early hours of Sunday, May 17.

At around 2.50am a 38-year-old man and a 37-year-old man were walking along the underpass beneath the platforms of Basingstoke Train Station.

As they walked out of the underpass they were approached by a group of around five men who assaulted them.

Both men suffered facial injuries following the attack and received treatment at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital and were released later that night.

One of the men is described as:

  • White
  • 5ft 10ins tall
  • Aged between 17 and 19
  • Short, dark, spiked hair
  • Wearing a dark, long sleeve top and tight denim jeans

PC Martyn Evans, of the Basingstoke Targeted Patrol Team, said: “This was an unprovoked attack on two men walking home from town.

“It happened at a time when other people would have been making their way home and we would ask any witnesses to contact police as soon as possible.”

Can you help?

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Evans at Basingstoke police station on 0845 045 45 45 or call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111. Mini-Com users can call 01962 875000.
