Indecent incident next to the Moose Centre

Police are appealing for witnesses after an indecent incident in Basingstoke on Friday, May 8.

At around 3.40pm a 17-year-old girl noticed a man committing an indecent act in the bushes next to the Moose Centre in Churchill Way.

The man is described as:

  • White
  • Aged in his late 20s
  • 5ft 10ins tall
  • Average to large build
  • Wearing a dark coloured black or blue hooded top and dark tracksuit bottoms.

PC Ross Holdsworth, of the Basingstoke Town Centre Unit, said: “Incidents like this are rare and it happened during the day when people would have been around.

“The man made no attempt to approach the girl and ran off when he realised he had been seen.

“We would ask anyone with any information to contact police as soon as possible.”

Hampshire Constabulary offers the following Safer Streets advice:

  • You will be safest in bright, well lit and busy areas.
  • Be vigilant and aware of your surroundings and report any suspicious behaviour to police.
  • Try to look and act confident – look like you know where you are going. If you are wandering around with a map, looking confused, you are more likely to be targeted.

Can you help?

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Holdsworth at Basingstoke police station on 0845 045 45 45 or call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111. Mini-Com users can call 01962 875000.
