Indecent assault in the town

Detectives in Basingstoke are appealing for information after an indecent assault in the town on Friday, May 1.

At around 5.15pm a 15-year-old girl was walking along a footpath between Shakespeare Road and Abbey Road.

She was approached by a man who stopped and asked her name. The man pushed her into the fence and touched her indecently.

The girl then managed to get away and run off.

The man is described as: 

  • Black
  • Around 30 years old
  • Large build
  • Spoke with a Jamaican accent
  • Wearing a baggy grey t-shirt and dark trousers

Detective Constable Andy Walker, of Basingstoke CID, said: “Incidents like this are rare in this area and we are taking it very seriously.

“The incident happened during the day and may have been witnessed by someone passing by.

“We want to hear from anyone was in the area at the time and may have seen a man matching the description.”

A 49-year-old man from Basingstoke has been arrested and bailed in connection with this incident.
