Three arrested in connection with robberies

Detectives in Basingstoke are appealing for information after two robberies in the town on Saturday, April 4.

Between 10pm and 11pm a 40-year-old man was walking home along a service road close to the rear of Winchester Road.

He was then assaulted, knocked to the ground and had his wallet, watch and mobile phone stolen.

The man suffered facial and head injuries and was taken to Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital for treatment.

At around 10.45pm a 22-year-old man was walking along Wessex Close when he was approached by two men and a woman.

One of the men punched him in the face, kicked him to the floor and both men then stole his wallet and iPod.

The victim suffered facial injuries and he received treatment at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital.

The first man is described as: 

  • White
  • 5ft 8ins tall
  • Stocky build
  • Wearing a black baseball cap

The second man is described as: 

  • White
  • 5ft 8ins tall
  • Skinny build

Detective Constable Colin Squibb, of Basingstoke CID, said: “These were cowardly and unprovoked attacks against innocent members of the public.

“Both incidents happened in the same area at a similar time and we believe they are linked.

“Both victims suffered injuries following the robberies and we are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed them or has any information about them.”

Two men and a woman have been arrested in connection with these incidents.
