Attempted robbery in Basingstoke

Detectives in Basingstoke are appealing for witnesses after an attempted robbery in the town on Monday, March 30.

At around 10.30pm a 54-year-old woman was walking along a lane between Winchester Road and Cranbourne School when she heard someone running behind her.

A man then tried to pull her bag off her shoulder. The victim kept hold of the bag but during the struggle was knocked to the ground. The man then ran off. The victim suffered bruising to one of her knees but nothing was stolen during the incident.

The man is described as: 

  • 5ft 10ins tall
  • Slim, athletic build
  • Wearing a black hooded top, dark trousers and trainers

Detective Constable Nigel Hancock, of Basingstoke CID, said: “This incident happened in a well lit area and may have been witnessed by someone.

“We would ask anyone with information to contact police as soon as possible.”
