Detectives appeal for witnesses after assault in BuckskinDetectives appeal for witnesses after assault in Buckskin Detectives in Basingstoke are trying to trace witnesses who may have information about an assault in Buckskin on Sunday, July 6.

Sometime between 1.30am and 2am a 44-year-old man was walking home from the Royal Oak pub along Tweedsmuir Close.

He saw two youths damaging a fence in Cairngorm Close and called over to them to stop.

The youths then turned on the man hitting him several times in the face and stamping on him while he was on the ground.

The man sustained a dislocated shoulder and facial injuries and he was taken to Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital.

The two youths then took a mobile phone and £175 in cash from the victim.

The first youth is described as:

  • White
  • 6ft 2ins tall
  • Slim build
  • Shaven head
  • 19 to 20 years old
  • Grey vest over an orange t-shirt

The second youth is described as:

  • White
  • 5ft 10 ins tall
  • Slim build
  • 19 to 20 years old
  • Wearing a black hooded top

Police are keen to hear from a witness who tried to stop the fight but was pushed away by the attackers.

Detective Constable Paul Barry, of Basingstoke CID, said: “This was a particularly nasty and unprovoked attack on an innocent man as he walked home.

“The area would have been quite busy in the early hours of Sunday morning and we would urge anyone with information about the incident to contact police as soon as possible.”

A 19-year-old man from Basingstoke has been arrested and bailed in connection with this incident.
