New Mayor in the Making Cllr George Hood was appointed Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane during the Mayor-making ceremony, held at the council's Civic Offices on Thursday 8 May.
Elected as a councillor in 1992, Cllr Hood has held various senior positions in the council, including that of Deputy Leader. He has also been a school governor since 1965. Cllr Hood worked at Thornycroft for 30 years until the company re-located in 1992. Between then and his retirement six years later, George delivered training programmes for the unemployed on behalf of the employment service. He lives in Norden, along with his wife Davina.
